If you’ve sat on the sidelines during the contra breaks because you don’t know how to waltz, this lesson is for you! Also join us if you know what you’re doing so we have some experienced dancers in the mix. If you’re new to contra, you’re welcome to join in, too!

Statehood Ball returns to celebrate 162 year of Kansas statehood. Derrick Doty will show us those popular dances of the time, like the Virginia reel. Kansas Brigade Band will playing 1860's music for the evening. Talmage Library and Event Center will be hosting location. Admission will be $5 per person. Period dress is encouraged, but not required. Come join us 7-10pm January 28th for this family fun event.
There will be a brief refresher course at 7 before the march begins.

Kaw Creek will be our band for the evening. Derrick Doty will be calling.
Refresher/beginner walk-throughs begin at 6:30, and dancing starts at 7:00.

16 and under free

Scissortail Traditional Dance Society is pleased to announce that this year’s Flamingo Fling will be called by Diane Silver to music by Stomp Rocket.
You're invited to join us for a weekend of contra dance, from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. As we re-enter in person dancing, this year's fling will focus on the simple joy of dancing together, with a schedule that will include a dance on Friday, Saturday workshops and a local caller dance, a Saturday evening dance, and a final Sunday morning dance. Each participant will be asked to help with volunteering and a snack so that we can all focus on dancing.
Because this dance will be attended by those out of state, we are following the same guidelines as CDSS. We are requesting that all participants be up-to-date on their vaccinations and boosters, wear a mask, and show proof of a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the dance. As we have learned in the past two years, the situation can quickly change for better or worse, and we will update this plan as necessary.
Register by Friday, May 13, 2022 for a discount! We will fully refund any cancelled registration. Walk-ins for individual sessions will not be allowed.
